A Christmas Story

Mrs. Santa was worried.  

In fact she was frantic with apprehension.  It was two weeks before Xmas and Mr Santa was in bed.  Oh, he got out of bed for breakfast but then went back to sleep all day long   A mid life crisis the doctor had said - something about a nervous breakdown …– it happened to a lot of men.   But Mrs Santa’s husband was not “most” men ; “most” men didn’t have  to get ready for Xmas  deliveries.    

So Mrs Santa took it into her own hands ;   She went to visit the workroom but more bad news greeted her.  Four elves had flu,   the trainee elves were not producing  toys as fast as the regular ones, and she began to feel a Pre-Christmas pressure. 

 Mrs. Santa tried to telephone  her mother for help but the lines were frozen at this time of year and she couldn’t get through.

When she went to harness the reindeer, she found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where. 

  Then when she began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered. 

  Frustrated, Mrs Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. 

        When she went to the cupboard, she discovered that the elves had drunk all the cider and hidden the bottle of whiskey.. In her frustration, she accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor.  She went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of it. 

  Just then the doorbell rang, and very irritated and upset she  marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree. 

  The angel said very cheerfully, 'Happy  Christmas, Mrs Santa. Isn't this a lovely day?  I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to put it?'  Together they decorated it and showed Santa Claus who immediately  snapped out of his depression and they got to work with their deliveries all together.

  And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree. 

Not many people know this.
