Hello, This week we have been studying a Japanese form of poetry Haiku.
"Haiku" is a traditional form of Japanese poetry. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme.
Here are some of my students creative writing. We didn't respect the 5 7 5 syllables but I think the meaning of these is tremendous.
"Follow your dreams
They know
the way"
"Like a show of stars
Snowflakes fall on my garden
filling my heart with peace and sweetness"
"Call me back
wait. The way to show your love is imperative"
And here is a poem with the 5 7 5 formula.
"Like a show of stars (5)
Snowflakes fall on my garden (7)
Great peace and sweetness (5)"
Thank you for publishing our poems. From Bernadette Février.
